The site is located in the western ghats of Kerala. The client wanted a studio apartment nestled in the forest, with private spaces for themselves as well to host guests.
Hierarchy in privacy dictated the levels and elements. The ground floor is transparent with an open verandah, directly connected to the outside garden, where the client conducts workshops for students. It consists of the kitchen, dining, living and sleeping units for the user. The upper floor is for guests and both levels are connected through the double height kitchen. Privacy can be controlled by the cutouts on the upper floor opening into the ground floor, depending on the guest. The stairs act as a furniture element, with the flexibility to access the upper floor directly. The terrace on the back provides a connection with nature.
