Two construction volumes stood incomplete at the terrace floor of a five-story residential building. The generous extension of the apartment and office is the first experimental example of “IN:CH architects and planners” based in Bangalore. Each of the workspaces has a carefully curated atmosphere which balances both functions of the penthouse structure.
The Apartment and Office studio space enable a flexible work-life environment. The ability to work with students on research projects, to introduce office/ studio projects to people interested in learning about sustainability concepts and to experiment with various materials makes up the work culture at IN:CH architects and planners. The firm experiments with carpentry works- mainly furniture prototypes such as chairs, sofas, lanterns, bookshelves, etc. The carpenters involved in making these pieces of furniture were taught basic design, guided on how to understand joinery details and construct them to fit the requirements of the office. It was an interesting process with knowledge and skills being exchanged between both parties.
For all of us at IN:CH, sustainability in its essence, is of utmost importance and it is something we embody and implement in all projects and daily activities. This going down to the details of waste management with a composting system is one such example taken up in office. The overall impression of this design is an exemplary combination of Indian and Swiss culture.
