MANOR MURI B. BERN, SWITZERLAND

The first few steps while entering the previous house felt unfriendly, cold and abrasive/ unfeeling in general. The goal was to refurbish and transform this mansion and infuse spirit and esprit into its soul. This posed a challenge and gave us a chance as architects and designers to create and customize everything from scratch.

By putting ourselves in the shoes of the future users- the parents and the two daughters, we tried to understand what they needed, how they would use it and how it should be designed. Playing with light and shadows, modifying the atmosphere through colors, materials and other visual and physical attributes brought us closer to our defined goals. With a respectful attitude towards both the built and un-built, i.e. architecture and landscape, the house and the garden became one unit. The house from the front looks spectacular now. There’s an element of surprise when one enters and takes the first few steps inside.
