PUBLIC SPACE,SARAJEVO, BOSNIA&HERZEGOVINA

Directly after the war got over most of the houses in Sarajevo were damaged. Instead of glass they had used plastic sheeting for windows. The fear of being hurt or killed by firearms was immense. Ruins and garbage lay strewn around in public areas and were understandably not taken care of due to the presence of landmines.

The design and construction of a site in the square Grbavica, the new town of Sarajevo, gave the inhabitants an opportunity to meet each other while playing a game of chess, bowling or for a chat. The public lighting, the blue colored concrete walls and the street furniture gave this urban space a sense of identity and its name, “The Blue Square”.
