The design program for the University Hospital Insel required a training center for specialized professions and a logistics department. Ten years have since passed between winning the competition and the opening of the building. Utility requirements, laws and construction technology and decision makers had constantly changed, sometimes causing drastic impacts to the project. The planning thus had to be adapted continuously to meet the changing standards. The construction stood at a sensitive urban site. Hi-tech and specialized means were used to counter the negative environmental influences such as noise and dust pollution. The classrooms had a dual purpose and could be set up as workshop-studios as well.
