Transitional Rurality

Transitional Rurality

18 January 2015 | Transitional Rurality |Conference at IES College of Architecture, Mumbai | The IN:CH team attended the conference organized by the IES College of Architecture in Mumbai on Transitional rurality. The architecture discourse in India has predominantly been about urban context. Modernity in urban and rural India is differently understood. We can make the inference that global thought first arrives in urban India and filters into rural India. Transformation of thought in rural India is a continuing reality. Can this rural perspective have potential to inform urban India? Is globalization in urban and rural inevitable? Will rural India remain a living reality in the future? Which forces affect architecture in rural India? Can rural architecture be seen as a separate entity worthy of meaningful conservation? These and many more questions were answered and an understanding of what constitutes rural India today and where it is headed. IES College has done an excellent job in organizing this conference, and we can’t wait for the next one!
