B V DOSHI VASTU SHILPA FOUNDATION SANGATH AHMEDABAD

B V Doshi worked with Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret. That is why the construction details in Doshi’s Studio Sangath in Ahmedabad India and in Atelier 5 in Bern Switzerland are the same. I felt at home in both places.

Henry Frugès had built the houses for his workers in 1924-1926 as part of a housing estate. Today, as representatives of modern architecture, they are part of the world cultural heritage. The two architects Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret planned and built this settlement. Later they planned the city of Chandigarh in India. There and in Ahmedabad they built several buildings.

SAM Dichtelust- Forms of Urban Coexistance in Switzerland

The exhibition at the Swiss Architecture Museum (SAM) in Basel shows urban development projects in Switzerland. We mainly use the expression ‘density’ to talk about urbanism and population. This exhibition opens many more perspectives and opportunities in addition to this. It was one huge learning experience on the various forms of urban coexistence in Switzerland.

Cosmos and Cubism

This exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Basel offers short explanations of how Cubism came into existence. It was surprising to discover how intensively and extensively, well-known artists work together.

Picasso at Beyeler Foundation

The young Picasso of the blue and rosa period attracts thousands of people to Basel. We are incredibly privileged to be able to use and learn the cultural offerings of these public and private institutions.

Open Talk

There is exactly two months from today to view the exhibition on the works of Balkrishna Doshi titled ‘Architecture for the People’ at the Vitra Design Museum.
Doshi’s granddaughter Khushnu Panthaki Hoof and the Vitra team skillfully integrated the inspiring exhibition into the building. The viewers feel the spirit of the Vastu Shilpa Foundation reflected in the exhibits.

On the occasion of the opening of the exhibition in the Vitra Design Museum, Doshi and I recalled nostalgic memories from the international studios conducted in India between 2002 to 2005. We fondly recalled being able to motivate numerous young people. It was at the same time that I was inspired to work in India for 20 years almost.

NITTE Institute of Architecture (NIA)

The visit to the NITTE Institute of Architecture has long occupied my mind for some time now. Quite a lot of activities are being developed there. I look forward to seeing the progress and the results of such a new study culture in a few years time.
