In-Ch Lab

Bettina and Gionatan were students of IN:CH studio 2011. They worked on transformation in a rural area near Bangalore in 2012 for their thesis and now they join Bern University of Applied Sciences as assistants to represent IN:CH in Europe. We are happy that we can collaborate with them.

The IN:CH studio 2013 semester topic was ‘Campus’. The analysis about campus typologies in Ahmedabad, about processes in Mumbai and case studies of campuses in Bangalore are combined as a contemporary visualization in this book. The students from IN:CH studio 2012 worked on a live project for a new settlement in Bangalore. We collaborated with a partner and a site with real constraints. The project provided learning on multi-layered concepts. The concepts of design, management, technology and landscape were woven together. The jury with Indian experts appreciated the project on its conceptual, visual and spacial aspects.

The results after a workshop with the engineers, architects and education specialists are an architectural strategy for a building according to the education model from IN:CH Academy: transparent, flexible and sustainable

IN:CH 2012 is a trans-cultural studio for students to work and learn in a different culture and country and learn sustainability concepts. This year the studio started in Bern, Switzerland and is now in progress in India.

Bern University of Applied Sciences is on its way to have a new campus in Biel. IN:CH studio 2013 will work on campus design also. In Bangalore we are looking for a possible site and partners for this campus to have a live project. The studio will be an international platform with students from different nationalities working in Ahmadabad, Mumbai and Bangalore on the task. There may be an influence on the design of the new campus in Switzerland.

Security guards at the premises where the IN:CH office is situated, sleep under the stairs and have no shelter. This is not acceptable to IN:CH and so we are in a process to build a small shelter for them. It is a playful structure with minimum material. It will provide space for the watchmen during cold windy nights and a place to call their own away from their homes.

An interactive dustbin, a dustbin that makes you want to segregate waste the right way is an intervention by these IN:CH Studio students with support from Christ University. The bins are at eye level for convenience and it would be placed at various places in the city for 12000 students of Christ University

More and more universities are interested about IN:CH work. We are also interested in their work. A delegation of varied backgrounds, such as agriculture, international affairs, natural resources and sociology visited IN:CH. The delegation represented Zurich University of Applied Sciences. The discussion was around possible academic and professional collaborations to have interdisciplinary interventions. The collaboration aims to implement research results and have students for IN:CH studio and CAS programmes.
