Acharya school of Architecture invited Juerg Grunder as the chief guest for addressing the first year students at the first day of school. He was invited to give them an incite on international and global scenario in architectural practice and forthcoming challenges as an architect. Juerg Grunder explained the students the importance of being critical, creative and responsible in their future years as architects. The school aims at giving its students an international exposure and working towards global and sustainable activities.

30 October 14 | Publication in:ch studio 2014 | We are delighted to announce our publication of the documentation of the IN:CH studio 2014 in collaboration with Bern University of Applied Sciences. The studio was designed around the topic, ÔUrban SubcultureÕ in the Indian context, to understand how India treats the marginalized groups. The students from Switzerland, Spain and India analyzed hoe people from deprived live, work and sustain. The studio format is designed around three Indian cities, Ahmedabad Ð Mumbai- Bangalore. IN:CH studio requires dedicated engagement from the students, coaches and the IN:CH team. Each year the quality and the topic addressed is crucial, the results of the 2014 studio has surpassed our expectations. Students design and build with people from marginalized communities. Understanding the needs of the community, engaging them and building for them and with them was the focus of studio. Interventions through architectural and planning measures to address social problems in an Indian context, though challenging for foreign students, was executed with our team of excellent coaches and partners. IN:CH studio was introduced to the new students at Bern University of Applied Sciences.Juerg Grunder and Priya Joseph from Bangalore India introduced the concept of the studio. Bettina Steuri and Gionatan Vignola make the introduction live at the University simultaneously. The students were informed about the schedule, opportunities and learning at the IN:CH Studio. 11th October Juerg Grunder, Bettina Steuri and Gionatan Vignola with previous year students would make a presentation about their work in IN:CH studio 2012 and an introduction about the IN:CH studio in 2013 would be made. IN:CH Studio 2013 starts on 18th Feb 2013 in Cochin, India.

Malur Housing Project

Architecture thesis students from Bern University of Applied Sciences work in collaboration with IN:CH architects and planners and the local NGOs’ to understand the region of Malur, about 50 Kms from Bangalore. The aim is to study the social, economic and other living conditions of the people and their needs in the sense of infrastructure.

They stay till the 2nd week of April in Malur and Bangalore and research the region with primary interviews in Malur and interaction with local experts. The second part of the thesis would be finalised in Bern where they would come up with solutions and suggestions for sensitive interventions.

In Bangalore a small group of women from the slum have created a small company of their own with the help of Christ University. The IN:CH Studio students gave them another opportunity to extend their business through architectural design and innovation. The students designed a market stand for display in the city for and with the women. The stand is made of waste aluminium cans.
