GRAMSHREE WORKSHOP UNIT AHMEDABAD, INDIA

Gramshree is a vocational training center for women. They are taught various skills and given support to engage in diverse disciplines. They are encouraged to impart knowledge, given a platform to look for jobs, take microcredit, maintain health & hygiene, gain awareness about gynecological treatment and more. The complex is located in a slum in Ahmedabad, one of the largest city in India, in direct proximity to Mahatma Gandhi’s ashram. An NGO conducts and maintains this project.

The individual buildings are built out of up to 80 % waste products such as factory ash, the wood of transport boxes, plastic bags, PET bottles, broken records, bracelets, etc. The building’s design concept factors changing climatic conditions into account. The main underlying objective is to create a safe space such that women would feel comfortable and secure in the workshop center.
