International Center Bangalore, India

Superstructures of IT-companies are lined up on the outer ring road in Bangalore. The buildings all look similar with only the logos of the respective firms differentiating them. The topics: living, food, and leisure-activities were relatively marginalized for the working population.

The International Center Bangalore offers small apartments for people, mostly foreigners, on short stays, entertainment, and leisure activities, as well as services for the users. The building implements aspects from the economic, ecological and social sectors in design, management, and technology. Solar panels, earth-cooling, rainwater harvesting, and lasting materials are used. The openings in the building allow a natural cross-ventilation. The skeleton of the building is in concrete while the walls are made of rammed earth. Sliding elements protect the façade from the direct sunlight and changes the image of the building daily. All these elements give the building a dynamic expression and allow it to appear as a prominent landmark on the ring road.
